Our take
Still the best value in VR even after the April 2026 price hike, but with prices trending up, grab a bundle deal when one appears rather than holding out for a discount.
Pros
- +Same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and game library as the pricier Quest 3, fully standalone with no PC or console required
- +Color mixed-reality passthrough makes it fun for fitness, party games, and casual apps beyond pure VR
- +Easiest entry point into VR — setup takes minutes and bundles often include a free game or store credit
Cons
- −Older Fresnel lenses have a smaller visual sweet spot and less clarity than the Quest 3's pancake optics
- −128GB fills up fast with modern VR games, and newer headsets make its value case harder every month
Best for: First-time VR buyers and families who want an affordable, all-in-one headset without extra hardware.
Alternatives to consider: Meta Quest 3 512GB, Sony PlayStation VR2
