Our take

The default ereader for a reason — if you read most nights, it earns its keep in habit alone.

Pros

+7-inch 300ppi glare-free display with warm light is easy on the eyes for hours, even in direct sun
+Weeks of battery life per charge, so you can forget the charger on vacation
+IPX8 waterproof rating means bath, pool, and beach reading without worry

Cons

−Locked into Amazon's ebook ecosystem, with no native EPUB store support like Kobo offers
−The base price includes lock-screen ads; removing them costs $20 extra

Best for: Heavy readers who want the best screen-quality-per-dollar e-reader and already buy their books through Amazon.

Alternatives to consider: Kobo Libra Colour, Amazon Kindle (base model)
