Our take
The default tablet recommendation for most people — it simply covers what most homes need a tablet to do.
Pros
- +The 128GB base storage is double what entry iPads used to offer, so it no longer feels crippled out of the box
- +A16 chip is smooth for streaming, browsing, schoolwork, and most games, and the battery genuinely lasts all day
- +The most affordable current iPad, and the one that fits what most households actually do with a tablet
Cons
- −No Apple Intelligence support — the A16 chip is excluded from Apple's AI features, which may matter more each year
- −60Hz non-laminated screen looks a step below the iPad Air, especially for drawing with a stylus
Best for: Families, students, and casual users who want the classic iPad experience for streaming, reading, and homework without spending flagship-tablet money.
Alternatives to consider: Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Apple iPad Air 11-inch (M3)
