Our take

The value pick of the MacBook lineup while M4 stock lasts — grab it unless you truly need the newest chip.

Pros

+M4 chip with 16GB of base RAM handles everyday work, photo editing, and light video work without breaking a sweat
+Fanless design stays silent, and real-world battery life of 15+ hours means you can leave the charger at home
+With the M5 Air now on shelves, this M4 model has settled into the value slot of the MacBook lineup

Cons

−256GB base storage fills up fast and is not upgradeable, so budget for the 512GB model if you keep lots of files locally
−It is now one generation behind — the M5 Air exists, so buy this for value, not longevity bragging rights

Best for: Students and everyday users who want a premium, long-lasting laptop without paying flagship prices.

Alternatives to consider: Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M5), Dell XPS 13
