Our take

A sensible first video doorbell — just budget for the subscription, because that is where Ring makes its money.

Pros

+Head-to-toe field of view shows packages on the doormat, not just faces
+Truly wireless install in about 15 minutes — no doorbell wiring or electrician needed
+Crisp HD video, two-way talk, and reliable motion alerts in the polished Ring app

Cons

−Video recording history requires a Ring Home subscription (around $4.99/month) — without it you only get live view
−Battery needs recharging every month or two, and you have to pop the unit off to do it

Best for: Renters and first-time smart home buyers who want package and porch monitoring without wiring anything.

Alternatives to consider: Google Nest Doorbell (battery), Blink Video Doorbell
